The Dresden stollen knife was introduced in 1730 during a saxonian troop presentation of Augustus the Strong. It was used for the giant Christmas stollen, which was baked for that special occasion. The sterling silver stollen knife
was 1,6 meter long and was stored in the
Hofsilberkammer (Silver Chamber).
Until 1945 the knife was the property of the Wettiner. After 1990 the Dresden stollen knife was produced as a replica with the original measures and is buyable in a smaller version since 1994.
